SSMasters Category and SSManiac Format
SSMasters - Are your knees sore from hitting the pads? Does it hurt to lift your arm above your head after a bouldering session? Is your kid climbing multiple V-grades harder than you? Well, you asked and we listened! This year we are introducing the SSMasters category for participants who are 45 and up. This category is optional, climbers age 45+ may opt to be scored against the entire field.
SSManiac - If you’re sad that there is only one sport climbing competition in the tournament, then this new category might be the thing to pump you back up! Get it?… pump.. like when your forearms make popeyes’ look like a twig… anyway… This year we are adding the SSManiac category! An endurance based format to climb as many boulders as possible. Earn points for every boulder problem you top, highest accumulative score after four hours of climbing wins. Who is the real SSManiac?
Stone Summit Open Pro/Am
Friday evening Qualification Round - Redpoint style, with ten pre-selected boulder problems per gender. Zone scoring will be used and a competitor’s final score will be based on their cumulative point total from all 10 problems. Competitors have a maximum of eight attempts per boulder. Flashing a problem will grant an additional 10 bonus points to the problem’s marked score. Top five males, and top five females will move on to the Saturday night finals.
IMPORTANT: Open Pro-Am competitors may also climb in the USAC youth local competition on Saturday morning but may NOT compete during Saturday’s citizen's comp.
All Open category climbers are encouraged to join the block party, and compete in the mini-competitions with the Stone Summit community on Saturday!
Saturday night Finals Round - Competitors will have time to warm up in an isolation area prior to climbing. Finals will consist of 3 boulders per gender. Four minutes to attempt a boulder, then a four minute rest period, with a 30 second transition time. Climbers will be called off the wall once four minutes expire. Points will be given to competitors for control of each bonus hold (5, 10, 15, 25), and .1 points will be deducted for each fall to the high point. More details will be given to competitors the night of finals during the isolation period.
Citizens - General Admission Redpoint Round
Redpoint style boulder competition - With 77 boulder problems to choose from, all ages and abilities are welcome! Competitors may attempt each problem as many times as they would like during the competition time, with points being awarded when the problem is topped. Flashing a boulder problem (completion on your first attempt) will grant an additional 10 bonus points to the problem’s marked score.
The boulder problems will be ordered on the score card in increasing difficulty, but there will be no distinction to competitors where the division is between the different grade categories. Competitors should climb their hardest, and enjoy the energy of the competition. The Judges will place each competitor into the appropriate category, based on their top 5 climbs at the end of the competition. The only exception to this is the Open Category climbers. If you wish to climb in the Open Pro/Am Category to compete for the finals cash purse you are REQUIRED to climb in the Friday evening Open Qualifiers.
IMPORTANT: No competitor who has competed at a USAC National level event in the past two years may compete in the Citizen's round - competitors must compete in the Open Pro/Am category on Friday night.
Open Pro/Am (see above)
USAC Local Competition
USAC sanctioned local competition - The morning competition is only for USAC youth climbers. The competition will be classic redpoint format.
IMPORTANT: Youth competitors MAY compete in both the Open Pro/Am and the USAC Local; however, youth competitors MAY NOT compete in both the Citizen’s Repoint Round and the USAC Local.
